LOS ANGELES (AP) - Lawyers neared an end to jury selection Tuesday in the Anna Nicole Smith drug conspiracy trial in Los Angeles.

Superior Court Judge Robert Perry called a new panel of about 70 prospects early in the day, hoping to have a jury seated for opening statements on Wednesday.

Smith's boyfriend-lawyer Howard K. Stern and two of her doctors have pleaded not guilty to conspiring to provide her with massive amounts of opiates and sedatives. They are not charged in her overdose death in 2007.

Lawyers quizzed several of the prospective jurors about their attitudes about drugs, doctors and police officers.

One of the prospects says he learned about drugs from watching the TV show. "House." The judge reminded him the main character, a drug-addicted doctor, is fictional.

A police spokeswoman says authorities are serving several search warrants in the Missouri city of Joplin in connection with the 2009 discovery of the bodies of 11 women buried in the desert.

Albuquerque police spokeswoman Nadine Hamby would not discuss the warrants because they are sealed, as were about a half dozen others served in various locations previously.

Hamby estimates it could take a couple of days to execute the warrants.

She would not say whether they involve businesses or homes. But she stresses they are search warrants, not arrest warrants.

The remains of the women and a fetus were discovered in February 2009, and had been buried between 2003 and 2005.

The NBA will open its season with a battle of Big Threes, then offer up the new-look Miami Heat against Kobe Bryant and the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers on Christmas Day.

The Heat will debut their All-Star trio of Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh at Boston on Oct. 26 against the defending Eastern Conference champion Celtics, who are led by their veteran group of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.

The Lakers will host Houston in the other opening-night game on TNT, the NBA announced Tuesday.

The Christmas schedule will again feature five games, highlighted by the return of the Heat-Lakers matchup that was regularly played Dec. 25 after Los Angeles traded Shaquille O'Neal to Miami in 2004.

NEW YORK (AP) - A person with knowledge of the details says the new-look Miami Heat will play the opening game of the NBA season at Boston.

The defending champion Los Angeles Lakers will host the other game on Oct. 26 against the Houston Rockets, the person tells The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the games were to be announced during an NBA TV special later Tuesday.

The marquee matchup comes earlier, when the Heat's new trio of Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh visits the defending Eastern Conference champions, led by their veteran Big Three of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.

James' last game for Cleveland came in Boston, when the Celtics eliminated the Cavaliers in Game 6 of the second round.
